President Cao: CACMS, directly under the supervision of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is the research center of Chinese medicine with the largest scale in the world. Our aim is to lead the direction of Chinese medicine development, based on national interests and human heath and the emphasis of our mission is the study of Chinese medical science, which carry out fundamental research and research of clinical fundament and application from aspects like health cultivation, health care, therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation, including standardization establishment. We have achieved several internationally influential projects, including Chinese herbal project Arteannuin, therapy of activating blood and eliminating stasis by academician Chen Keji and Li Lianda and standardization of acupuncture points cooperatively with WHO, all of which are leading study projects of Chinese herbal in China and even in the world. Currently Chinese medicine enjoyed great international attention. Chinese medicine has been categorized to complementary and alternative medicine, while now it is listed into whole medicine, through which we can see the rising status of Chinese medicine on the international medical stage.
With the purpose of holding international exchange with high qualification, CACMS has established long-term and steady relations with world-wide first-class universities and research institutions like NIH (National Institute of Health) in the United States and internationally well-known Coca Cola Company. Some of the achievements have gained international concerns. Presently, we are holding a lot of exchanges with Korea, Japan and other countries in the acupuncture academy, standardization and fundamental study and continuously promoting cooperation.
The Chinese government pays more attention to the development of Chinese medicine. We never feel a more irreplaceable mission than we have now. The new emphasis is on the clinical research of diseases that Chinese medicine is expert in treating, sub-health, the internationally expansion of acupuncture standardization and prevention and treatment of serious diseases. We are aiming to develop CACMS to the research and organizing center of Chinese medical science, the window of international exchange of Chinese medicine, the education base for high-level talents, and the first-class research institution for Chinese medical science in the world.
CACMS attaches great importance to the subject construction and academic development of acupuncture as the key constitutional part of Chinese medicine. World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) and China Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion are affiliated to CACMS and three of the seven cooperation centers of traditional medicine are founded under CACMS. For twenty years since the foundation of WFAS, CACMS shoulders responsibility and obligation to support WFAS in an all-round way. It is the guidelines of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the support from CACMS that enable acupuncture and Chinese medicine to walk throughout the world. I hope that this acupuncture conference could invite specialists and scholars with higher level to make new contribution to acupuncture development in the world.
